Stop Hiding: Ellen Edmondson on Trusting the Voice Within

Sometimes the voice we most need to hear is the one we have spent years trying to quiet.

In Episode 257 of Moped Outlaws, Marc and Greg sit down with author, spiritual guide, speaker, and intuition mentor Ellen Edmondson for a conversation about learning to trust the guidance that rises when the noise of the world begins to settle.

Ellen describes intuition not as a rare supernatural ability, but as one of the ways life continually speaks to us. The difficulty, she suggests, is not that guidance has disappeared. It is that responsibilities, expectations, fear, comparison, and constant activity can make it difficult to recognize what we already know.

Her own path included a rapid rise through the federal government, where she became a senior executive at a relatively young age. From the outside, the career represented success, influence, and security. Internally, however, Ellen began to recognize a growing loss of joy and a persistent sense that her life was calling her somewhere else.

Eventually, she resigned without another job waiting. The decision did not arrive as a perfectly mapped plan. It emerged from the realization that external achievement was no longer aligned with what felt true inside her.

The conversation deepens when Ellen recalls helping her young son navigate bullying and the discomfort of being unusually sensitive and intuitive. She encouraged him to honor his differences, but he recognized something she had not yet fully admitted about herself.

“Ma, I can’t be me until you be you. Stop hiding.”

That moment became another awakening. Ellen realized that asking her son to live openly required her to model the same courage. She began speaking more publicly about her intuitive work, sharing the reflective writings that would eventually become her book, A Place of Love and Light.

Ellen also speaks candidly about grief following the death of her mother only months after the birth of her son. She shares her personal belief that their connection continued beyond physical death and describes how her mother’s unfinished writing eventually became part of Ellen’s own book. The story is presented not as proof of a universal conclusion, but as a deeply personal experience of love, loss, memory, and an enduring promise.

From there, the ride widens into questions of parenting, highly intuitive children, public service, religion, American history, compassion, and the criticism sometimes directed at “love and light” spirituality. Marc asks whether an emphasis on divinity and positivity can become a form of spiritual bypassing—an avoidance of injustice, suffering, anger, and the shadow sides of human life.

Ellen responds that wholeness requires both shadow and light. Compassion, in her view, does not mean denying pain or difficulty. It means deciding how we will respond to them. The conversation considers whether courage sometimes looks like feeling fear, anger, grief, or resentment while still choosing not to pass that pain onward.

Near the end of the episode, Marc follows an intuitive impulse of his own and invites everyone into a full minute of silence.
